Time & Location

Somerset, Quantock Hills, Taunton TA4 4AB, UK
About the Event
A hilly day trip to escape the crowds, hear the birds and unwind. You will leave with the feeling that you visited another country.
You won't find a much quieter and eerie place to hike in the UK than the Quantock Hills, in Somerset, a place not much heard of because the locals like to keep it a secret.
The Quantock Hills are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), which means that its distinctive character, natural beauty and cultural heritage are so outstanding that it is in the nation’s interest to safeguard them. The area received its protected status in 1956.
This precious and ancient place with its distinct cultural heritage and village communities is hugely valued locally as a native or adopted homeland and workplace, as well as a favoured educational, recreational and even spiritual resource.
These hills, which are largely privately owned, accommodate up to half a million visits a year, mainly from people who live within sight of them.
Our hike will start from Dead Woman's Ditch, which has a dark past as the name suggests, and your guide will explain to you on the day. From there we carry on through mossy trails, along a stream, up hills for beautiful views and a drive back home with your phone full of lovely pictures to share.
Natural England has designated the Quantock Hills as a national character area.
If we are lucky, we will see wild horses happily grazing and galloping in the lush valleys.
