Escape into the Welsh Wye Valley in Monmouthshire for a mixture of rural tranquillity, mystical sights and historical intrigue.
The village of Tintern is the stunning home to a world-famous Cistercian abbey and an ancient industrial heritage, sitting quietly in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is a wonderful place to hike and breathe in the beautiful sights.
Offa’s Dyke Path is a 177-mile (285 Km) long walking trail. It is named after, and often follows, the spectacular Dyke King Offa ordered to be constructed in the 8th century, probably to divide his Kingdom of Mercia from rival kingdoms in what is now Wales.
The trail crosses over the Devil's Pulpit, a narrow pillar of limestone on the Offa's Dyke Path that has magnificent views over Tintern Abbey. Legend has it that the devil preached from the ‘pulpit’ to the monks below, tempting them to desert their order.
Our walk starts from Tintern Abbey and follows the Dyke on a circular hike with breathtaking views of the Monmouthshire hills and mountain range.
