NEW TRIP! The other Jurassic Coast Hike - Walk on Dinosaurs' Footprints!

TECHNICAL NOTES:

We have hiked Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove, we hiked Studland Bay and Corfe Castle, now let's go to a less known part of this stunning coastline.  

Worth Matravers was famous for its stone quarries since Roman times and men-made caves can be found along the coast, dug in those gorgeous cliffs shaped by Mama Nature next to this beautiful blue sea.  

The location was used as a filming location for several episodes of Doctor Who and you will spot curious lines in the nearby hills called 'strip lynchets', those are the remains of medieval terraces used as a way to maximize farming and cultivation of the lands.  

Our hike will take us through Spyway, where more than 100 fossilised tracks are preserved in a flat layer of rock at Keates Quarry, one of the places where south Purbeck’s tradition of stone production continues.

The footprints at Keates Quarry were probably made by brachiosaurs, a type of dinosaur from the group known as the sauropods, which included the largest land animals that ever lived.

Long-necked plant-eating dinosaurs like this could reach 50 tonnes, or five times the weight of a modern elephant, and measure more than 25 metres from nose to tail.

- Sturdy shoes for the hike, preferably hiking shoes, otherwise good trainers; 

- Weather appropriate clothes, including waterproofs if there is a chance of rain;

This is a long day out, so it is best to not have any plans for afterwards to avoid disappointment.

This is a road trip using our minibus. The estimated arrival time might be later depending on traffic. There’s little that we can do about traffic, so please be patient. We will do an extra toilet stop if needed.

2 - As with any road trip, there is a chance of heavy traffic, accidents, and break-downs which could force us to skip parts of the trip, or stop it completely. We will do our best to make your day better, and of course to avoid any of these, but we expect your understanding on these occasions.
