ITINERARYÂ
DAY ONE
Total Ascent: 1507 m / 4945 feet
Distance 4 to 5 hours of walking
MARRAKECH – IMLIL to TOUBKAL REFUGE
After breakfast or upon your arrival, we drive for 1h 30 to Imlil village, and we will begin the trek.Â
Heading along the Ait Mizane Valley, we first pass Aremd village and then onto the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch.Â
We then continue east and by crossing the flood plains our route takes us along mule tracks and up into the high rocky cliffs above the valley.
Crossing the river we eventually come to the pastoral shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, which attracts tourists and pilgrims from around the world.
From here the trail continues to climb steadily, snaking and zigzagging its way up to the summit and the Toukbal Refuge (3207m), our stop for the night.Â
DAY TWO
Total Ascent: 960 metres / 2973 feet
Distance: 9 to 10 hours of walking
TOUBKAL REFUGE – MOUNT TOUBKAL PEAK 4167M – REFUGE – IMLIL – MARRAKECH Â
Early in the morning, we make our attempt to reach the summit of Jebel Toukbal, the highest peak in Northern Africa.Â
Our route takes us up the south cirque, crossing the stream above the refuge. The walking is relatively straightforward, but the scree and the altitude will make the going quite difficult in parts.Â
The views along the way make the journey more than worthwhile. When you reach the summit you will see that the vistas across the surrounding landscape are quite breathtaking.Â
From here there are unrestricted views in every direction, from the Marrakech Plain to the High Atlas in the north and as far south as the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara.Â
We will retrace our steps when we return to the refuge have lunch and head back towards Imlil for our drive back to Marrakech.
