Algarve Beaching and Hiking - Easter Bank Holiday!

Ditch the British cold and dark weather to the sunny 20+ Celsius of the early spring in south Portugal!

On this trip, you will stay at a lovely studio apartment a short walk from Meia Praia's sandy beach. The apartment complex has a swimming pool and is located in the idyllic town of Lagos with beautiful beaches and, more importantly, some beautiful coastal hiking trails.

We will be doing a long cliff hike along the coast with incredible views that shadows our Jurassic Coast, which includes a fun scramble down a "secret" beach with its own cave. Halfway through the hike, we stop at a seaside restaurant for some cheap wine and lovely Portuguese food.

We will also do a local town walk to admire the Portuguese colourful and romantic architecture, stopping at a small back street restaurant used mainly by the locals where they serve fish caught that morning by a small fishing boat. Talk about sustainability!

You will also have free time to enjoy the beach or join a surfing/ kite surfing lesson (ask us in advance o avoid disappointment).

We will join a local guide for a boat tour of some hidden beaches including the one shown in the picture. This is not included in the fee but you can pay for it separately as not everyone is keen on boat rides.

You must have a good head for heights as we will walk over some narrow cliff edges, plus we will do some scrambling

ACCOMMODATIONS

A single or shared twin studio room

You will have a kitchen where you can save money and prepare some of your meals

MEALS

We will visit a local shop to get some breakfast and sandwich ingredients to save you some money.

We will have one dinner and one lunch at a local restaurant as a group to try out the local cuisine.

WHAT TO BRING

• A waterproof jacket
• Hiking or gym clothes. Opt for a variety of summery plus some warm layers
• Sunscreen
• Lounging clothes for dinners and exploring the town
• Comfortable shoes, one of which is a trainer of light trail shoes
• A backpack for the hike
• Bring a max of a backpack and a cabin-size suitcase
• A swimming suit if you want to brave the cold ocean waters or the warm swimming pool waters :-)

ROUGH ITINERARY

Friday

Fly to Faro airport, arriving by 10 am

We will agree closer to the date on the best method for airport transfer depending on the final number of attendees

Saturday

Wake up in Portugal!!!!

8 am Breakfast then leave straight for our hike

Hike 20 kilometres for 6 to 7 hours

Go back to our hotel and spend the rest of the day there, unless we finish our hike too early, in which case we can hop on the minivan and visit Sagres.

Sunday

The times for these will be announced closer to the day

Boat trip - 3 hours

Walk Lagos town

Part of the day will be spent by the beach if the weather is lovely.

Monday

Check out the apartment after breakfast and go to the airport or stay a little longer

Friday - Inbound - any flight to arrive at Faro by 10 am
