Quantock Hills, Somerset, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

You won't find a much quieter and eerie place to hike in the UK than the Quantock Hills, in Somerset, a place not much heard of because the locals like to keep it a secret. It is made of heathland, oak woodlands, ancient parklands and agricultural land. They were England's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, designated in 1956. Natural England have designated the Quantock Hills as a national character area. If we are lucky, we will see wild horses happily grazing and galloping in the lush valleys. This is a very hilly day trip to escape the crowds, hear the birds and relax.
