Do you wish you could hop on a flight to Scotland or Switzerland?
The heathlands, waterfall, streams and green alpine hills of Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd in Shropshire offers an environment that makes you feel like you are on a holiday far away from home.
A real hidden treasure, protected by the very welcoming locals right at the border with Wales. From the plateau of the Long Mynd, we can see at the distance to the west, the Welsh Cambrian Mountains in Powys, notably the Cambrian and Berwyn Mountains, and as far as Snowdonia on clear days.
The Long Mynd (Long Mountain) is an area of historic upland heath, created when some of Britain’s oldest rocks were pushed to the surface along the Church Stretton fault. The ancient landscape has been shaped by human activity for thousands of years, and there are scattered archaeological remains from the Bronze Age, Iron Age and Medieval times.
The area is within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest as it contains a number of habitats supporting wildlife and plants. Heather, bilberry and gorse cover much of the hilltop and the streams and bogs of the sheltered valleys are home to birds of prey, plants and insects.
